Third Meeting Of The Parishad

The third meeting of the Vishva Hindu Parishad Executive Council was held at Mysore on May 27-28, 1965 in the Summer Palace of His Highness the Maharaja of Mysore, the then Governor of Madras. The Maharaja, first President of the Parishad, was in the chair.

Prominent among those present were Sant Tukdoji Maharaj, Maharaj Bir Singhji of Namdhari Sikhs, Swami Vishwesha Tirtha of Pejawar Math, Swami Atmananda of Bihar, Lala Hansraj Gupta of Delhi, Sri Balasundaram of Textools, Coimbatore; Sri Nagappan Nair, Advocate, Ernakulam; President of Ayappa Seva Sangh; Dr. Lokesh Chandra, Delhi; Treasurers Babasaheb Ghatate, and Sri Sadajivatlalji and General Secretary Sri S. S. Apte.

Sri Hari Atmaram Ji and Sri Krishna Kumar Ji were the twin managers of the programme. Sri Shantibhai Somayya was the Chief Guest. Among the main speakers were Mananiya Balasaheb Deoras, Mananinya Moropant Ji Pingale and Sri Swami Purushottamanand Ji.

Sri A. G. Ramachandra Rao, President Mysore Pradesh V.H.P. welcomed His Highness and the other members.

Shri Apte gave a report of the progress of the Parishad.

The Maharaja in his inaugural address said:

“I have great pleasure in addressing the Vishva Hindu Parishad this morning. I hope and trust that your effort will be successful and fruitful. I am grateful to members for having associated me in the unique object of rendering service to the ideals of Hinduism and strengthening them for world peace. The Vishva Hindu Parishad has come at a stage when we are called upon to face a difficult situation. This can he done successfully only by practicing the Dharma, which is the central character of Hindu culture, and its implementation, will be the most useful contribution to Hindu Society as also a unifying force amongst its different sects.”

The Maharaja hoped the Vishva Sammelan in Prayag will be a great success. “The age in which we live demands greater co-operation and vigilance. Willing help and co-operation of sects will be a great contribution of the Vishva Hindu Parishad. It is a great task. I am sure we will bear this in mind”.

His Highness concluded. “The conference on the occasion of the Kumbha Mela, where people of all sects are expected to come, is a unique event. You will be able to achieve your ideal. I wish you a great success.”

The Executive Council discussed the draft constitution of the Parishad and referred it to a sub-committee for finalising it. The sub-committee was asked to submit its final draft by July 10, 1965.

The Council resolved that the Parishad should actively encourage and give all help for the starting of similar Parishads in different countries where there are sizeable Hindu populations, without in any way interfering with their loyalty to their adopted countries.

A programme committee was constituted to chalk out and prepare various programmes at the Prayag Sammelan.
