Sant Samaj rallies in support of strict laws against illegal religious conversions, announces nationwide campaign
New Delhi, October 09, 2025—The Nirmohi Aani Akharas, the Akhara Parishad and the Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti organized a press conference in New Delhi today on the Freedom of religion Laws in Bharat. The Sant Samaj of the country not only demonstrated its complete solidarity in support of these Acts passed by different states but also announced a nationwide campaign in this regard.
Addressing a joint press conference in the national capital, the president of the Nirmohi Aani Akhara and General Secretary of Akhara Parishad, Ven. Shri Mahant Rajendra Das Ji Maharaj, and the General Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti, Ven. Swami Shri Jitendranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj, said that Bharat’s greatness lies in its diversity. For thousands of years, various Schools of Dharma, numerous traditions and sects have flourished here. The foundation of this diversity is cultural nationalism and the Dharmic liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship. However, today this liberty is facing a serious threat in the form of religious conversions.
Article 25 of our Constitution guarantees that every person has the freedom to practice and propagate his/her religion, but this right is subject to public order, morality and health. ‘Propagation’ does not mean ‘conversion’, as our Judiciary has ruled in numerous cases.
After independence, many saints and eminent personalities in the country demanded a central law to prevent illegal religious conversions. The Constituent Assembly also discussed this issue, but the then ruling party believed that only state governments had the right to enact such laws. Consequently, our several states, viz., Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, enacted Religious Freedom Acts. The purpose of these laws is not to suppress faith, but to prevent religious conversions done through force, fraud and allurement.
Now, the forces involved in illegal religious conversions and their supporters have challenged these constitutional laws in the respective High Courts, but unfortunately, the Hon’ble Supreme Court has ordered a combined hearing of all these cases.
The Venerable Saints believe that, since these are matters of state governments, the Supreme Court should consider these cases only after the respective High Courts once decide them. Furthermore, the circumstances of each and every state are different, and the nature of their laws and the grounds for opposing them are also different. How all these matters can be heard together is beyond anyone's understanding. In a petition filed by Ven. Swami Dayanand Saraswati Ji regarding the liberation of temples from government control, the Supreme Court stated that it was a matter of state governments, and therefore, all those matters could not be heard together in the Supreme Court. Religious freedom acts are also matters of various state governments, so how can they be heard together. It raises doubts in the mind of Hindu society.
They added that, regarding the religious freedom acts passed by the states, the Supreme Court has sought opinions even from the states, where no such law is passed till date and their ruling parties themselves stand with the forces perpetrating religious conversions. Hearing them all together raises doubts in the minds of thinkers. At the same time, some so-called constitution experts associated with these forces were seen questioning the decisions made by the Constitution Bench regarding religious conversion. International conspiracies in favour of religious conversions are already active, which have been exposed numerous times. It is not unfounded to fear that our judiciary may also be influenced by these conspiracies! We want to ensure that the reputation of our great judiciary is protected.
The saints also stated that given the gravity of today's circumstances, it is essential to further strengthen laws preventing illegal religious conversions to ensure national security, social harmony, and the protection of the rights to freedom of practice religion. They urged the judiciary to order state governments to enact such laws where they do not exist and support strict enforcement where they exists.
Vishva Hindu Parishad's Central Joint General Secretary Dr. Surendra Jain and Akhara Parishad's spokesperson, Ven. Shri Mahant Gauri Shankar Das Ji Maharaj, were also present at the press conference.

नई दिल्ली, 9 अक्टूबर 2025— निर्मोही आणि अखाड़े, अखाड़ा परिषद व अखिल भारतीय संत समिति ने आज दिल्ली में "धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता एवं धर्मांतरण" विषय पर एक प्रेस वार्ता का आयोजन किया। इसमें देशभर का संत समाज ना सिर्फ धर्म स्वतंत्रता अधिनियम के पक्ष में पूरी तरह से लामबंद दिखा अपितु इस वारे में एक देशव्यापी अभियान की घोषणा भी कर दी।
देश की राजधानी दिल्ली में एक संयुक्त प्रेस वार्ता को संबोधित करते हुए निर्मोही आणि अखाड़े के अध्यक्ष व अखाड़ा परिषद के महामंत्री पूज्य श्री महंत राजेंद्र दास जी महाराज व अखिल भारतीय संत समिति के महामंत्री पूज्य स्वामी श्री जितेंद्रानंद सरस्वती जी महाराज ने कहा कि भारत की महानता इसकी विविधता में निहित है। यहाँ हजारों वर्षों से विभिन्न मत - पंथ, परम्पराएं और संप्रदाय फल-फूल रहे हैं। इस विविधता का आधार धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता है। लेकिन, आज यह स्वतंत्रता धर्मांतरण के रूप में एक गंभीर संकट का सामना कर रही है।
भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 25 के अनुसार, प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को अपने धर्म का पालन और प्रचार करने की स्वतंत्रता है लेकिन, यह स्वतंत्रता लोक व्यवस्था, नैतिकता और स्वास्थ्य के अधीन है। प्रचार का अर्थ धर्मांतरण नहीं है, यह अनेक मामलों में माननीय न्यायपालिका निर्णय दे चुकी है।
स्वतंत्रता के पश्चात देश में अनेक संतों और महा पुरुषों ने अवैध धर्मांतरण को रोकने हेतु केंद्रीय कानून की मांग की। संविधान सभा में भी इस विषय पर चर्चा हुई किंतु, तत्कालीन सत्ताधारी दल का यह मानना था कि इस कानून को बनाने का अधिकार सिर्फ राज्य सरकारों को है। इसीलिए, भारत के कई राज्यों - मध्य प्रदेश, उत्तर प्रदेश, उत्तराखंड, हिमाचल प्रदेश, गुजरात, ओडिशा, छत्तीसगढ़, राजस्थान आदि ने धर्म स्वतंत्रता अधिनियम बनाए। इन कानूनों का उद्देश्य आस्था का दमन करना नहीं, बल्कि छल-कपट, बल प्रयोग और प्रलोभन के माध्यम से धर्म परिवर्तन को रोकना है।
अब अवैध धर्मांतरण करने वाली शक्तियों व उनके समर्थकों ने इन संविधान सम्मत कानूनों को संबंधित उच्च न्यायालयों में चुनौती दी है किन्तु दुर्भाग्य से माननीय सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने इन सबको इकट्ठा कर एक साथ सुनवाई का आदेश दिया है।
पूज्य संतों का मानना है कि राज्य सरकारों का विषय होने के कारण, उच्च न्यायालयों द्वारा निर्णय के पश्चात ही, इन मामलों में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय को विचार करना चाहिए। वैसे भी हर राज्य की परिस्थितियां अलग अलग हैं, वहाँ के कानूनों का स्वरूप और उनका विरोध करने के आधार भी अलग अलग हैं। इन सब को भला एक साथ कैसे सुना जा सकता है, ये बात किसी की भी समझ से परे है। वैसे भी मंदिरों को सरकारी नियंत्रण से मुक्ति के संदर्भ में पूज्य स्वामी दयानंद सरस्वती जी की एक याचिका में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने कहा था कि ये राज्य सरकारों का विषय है इसलिए इन सब मामलों को सर्वोच्च न्यायालय मे एक साथ नहीं सुना जा सकता। धर्म स्वतंत्रता अधिनियम भी विविध राज्य सरकारों के ही विषय हैं तो इन सबको एक साथ कैसे सुना जा सकता है, यह समाज के मन में संदेह निर्माण करता है।
उन्होंने कहा कि राज्यों द्वारा पारित धर्म स्वतंत्रता अधिनियमों के संदर्भ में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने उन राज्यों से भी राय मांगी है जहां ऐसा कोई कानून बना ही नहीं है और वहाँ के सत्ताधारी दल स्वयं धर्मांतरण के कुचक्र रचने वाली शक्तियों के साथ खड़े हैं। उन सब को भी एक साथ सुनना देश के चिंतकों के मन में शंका निर्माण करता है। इसी समय इन शक्तियों के साथ जुड़े कुछ कथित संविधानवेत्ता धर्मांतरण के संबंध में संविधान पीठ द्वारा स्थापित निर्णयों पर प्रश्न चिन्ह लगाते हुए दिखे। धर्मांतरण के पक्ष में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय षडयन्त्र पहले से ही सक्रिय हैं, जो अनेक बार उजागर हो चुके हैं। यह आशंका निर्मूल नहीं है कि हमारी न्यायपालिका भी कहीं इन षड्यंत्रों से प्रभावित तो नहीं हो रही! हम यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहते हैं कि हमारी न्यायपालिका की प्रतिष्ठा सुरक्षित रहे।
संतों ने यह भी कहा कि आज की परिस्थियों की भीषणता को देखते हुए आवश्यक है कि अवैध धर्मांतरण को रोकने वाले कानूनों को और अधिक मजबूत किया जाए ताकि राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा, सामाजिक सद्भाव व स्वधर्म पालन की स्वतंत्रता के अधिकारों की रक्षा सुनिश्चित हो सके। हमारा न्यायपालिका से यह आग्रह है कि वह जिन राज्यों में ये कानून नहीं हैं वहाँ बनाने के लिए राज्य सरकारों को आदेश दे और जहां बने हुए हैं वहाँ उनको कठोरता से लागू करने में सहयोग दे।
